Nov. 17 First News: Both New Mexico Political Parties To Undergo Change In Leadership (Listen)

The 20-year old suspect in last month’s fatal shootings of a teenage couple will be extradited from Colorado back to Santa Fe by the end of the month. The Santa Fe County Sheriff's Office says that Ricardo "Ricky" Martinez was apprehended early Saturday in Colorado Springs. He was taken into custody without incident. The U.S. Marshals Service, which assisted in a surveillance operation, had added Martinez to its list of New Mexico's Most Wanted Violent fugitives. Martinez is wanted in the shooting deaths of 18-year-old Venancio Cisneros and 13-year-old Anamarie Ojeda. Melicendro Martinez, the suspect's uncle and wanted by New Mexico Corrections Adult Probation and Parole Office, was also taken into custody.

Police have arrested a man for allegedly shooting another man inside a Rio Rancho home. KOB-TV reported yesterday that James Elliot has been charged with attempted murder in the shooting of Christopher Hardy. They say the two men got into an argument Saturday night in the home near Kathy Road and Southern Boulevard. Hardy was wounded in the side and taken to a hospital.

There’s a new New Mexico Department of Health Women, Infants and Children—or “WIC”—office in Santa Fe.  Department of Health Secretary Retta Ward participating last week in the grand opening of the facility on the south side of town. Health Department spokesman Kenny Vigil: *****111714-Vigil-3 :14***** Vigil says WIC offers a “prescriptive food package” for qualifying families. He says the majority of WIC clients served in Santa Fe County reside in the area code where the new office is located.
