March 16 - Latino USA Report on Immigrant Drivers' Licenses

KSFR's own Tom Trowbridge produced a report on drivers' licenses for undocumented immigrants in New Mexico for the NPR program Latino USA. Listen Here!

And here's an update on the story: A bill sponsored by Senate Minority Leader Stuart Ingle calling for a “two-tier” New Mexico driver’s license is awaiting a hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee. Ingle’s bill would establish two New Mexico driver’s licenses--one that meets the federal requirements of the REAL-ID Act, and another that would be issued to those who are undocumented and is not REAL-ID Act compliant. The measure is a compromise that had been rejected by the State House last month. The main question about this bill is whether there’s enough time left in the session to complete the legislative process.
