August 23 Breaking News: Judge orders County Clerk to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples.

Santa Fe District Court Judge Sarah Singleton has today ordered Santa Fe County Clerk Geraldine Salazar to begin issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples. Progressive advocacy group Progress Now New Mexico says the judge offered Salazar an option: begin issuing licenses or have a hearing. In her order, Judge Singleton also references the same equal protection clauses of the state constitution city by Doña Ana’s county clerk as he began issuing licenses on Wednesday. Progress Now New Mexico has put up a hyperlink on their website for folks to download marriage application forms as they urge interested parties to take action immediately.
