April 13 - Emile Nakhleh: Who's In and Who's Out of Iraq's Next Battle Against ISIS

There is a potentially critical battle coming up in Iraq, as Iraqi ground forces with American and allied air support go after the Islamic State terrorist group on their home turf, the western Iraqi province of al-Anbar.  In this case, University of New Mexico Professor of National Security Affairs Emile Nakhleh told KSFR's Dave Marash on HERE AND THERE, the Iraqi ground forces will be a very different mix from those which just ousted I-S from the city of Tikrit.   In Al-Anbar, it's going to be the Iraqi National Army and Iraqi Sunni tribal forces in, and Shi'ite militia forces out, and Nakleh says, Iranian troops who were so important in the Tikrit campaign, are also likely to be on the sidelines.
