Breaking: Santa Fe nurses file complaint with state regulators over Christus St. Vincent

The union representing nurses at Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center has just filed a complaint with state regulators over nurse staffing levels at the hospital. They say the hospital's administration has ignored nurses' concerns that staffing levels are too low to ensure patient safety.

The issue has been brewing for years. Today, union representatives say they filed with regulators several years worth of documentation to support their claim.

9 a.m. Update -- Highway 4 reopens. New acreage update: 21,000, 40 % containment.

7 a.m. First News​ -- More containment is being reported at the 20,000 acre Thompson Ridge Fire in the Jemez though it did jump a southern flank fire line on Sunday prompting the partial closure of Highway 4.  The more than 1000 personnel working the fire have achieved 40% containment.  Efforts now are also being assisted by the deployment of some 20 members of New Mexico's National Guard providing logistical support.

June 5 First News: Tres Lagunas Fire at 9,000 acres / Thompson Ridge at 7400. (listen)

  The Tres Lagunas Fire to our east near Pecos has now scorched 9,000 acres.  The 750 personnel working the fire have managed to achieve 15% containment. The City of Las Vegas has continued to express concern for its watershed areas. As of today, there will be no public entry for the Santa Fe National Forest Pecos Las Vegas Ranger District.   Meanwhile, the Thompson Ridge Fire burning in the Jemez has prompted the closure of Fenton Lake as its being used as a staging area for water drops. The fire has grown to at least 7400 acres with 5% containment.

June 4 First News: Thompson Fire at 3300 acres, Tres Lagunas at 8500. (listen)

The latest report on the Thompson Fire burning in the Jemez says it now encompasses some 3300 acres with containment remaining at 5%. Almost 600 personnel are working the blaze burning in steep and rugged terrain with 5 helicopters deployed.  Meanwhile, the Tres Lagunas Fire raging to the east of Santa Fe 10 miles north of Pecos has scorched 8500 acres. 600 personnel are working to create fire lines along the perimeter and have achieved 7% containment.  The entire Pecos/Las Vegas Ranger District will close as of tomorrow.

June 3 First News: Thompson Fire now 1900 acres and Tres Lagunas at 7500. (listen)

The latest report has the Thompson Fire in the Jemez now just above 1900 acres. Some 310 personnel have been working to create fire lines around portions of the perimeter but there is no containment at present. The fire, which started Friday, is believed to have been caused by a downed power line. That’s the same ignition source cited for the Tres Lagunas Fire near Pecos which has now scorched at least 7500 acres.  Over 400 firefighters are on scene with 5% containment.

June 2, 6 a.m. -- North of Pecos, the Tres Lagunas fire grew to 6,200 acres yesterday while the Thompson Ridge fire Northwest of Santa Fe in the Jemez Mountains jumped to 1,200 acres.  Coming reports are expected to show that both grew overnight, fanned by heavy winds.  

June 1, 11 a.m. -- Two fires burning to the East and West of Santa Fe have grown in size.
